Two Top 15 heavyweight fighters are set to fight, as Alistair Overeem is set to take on Stefan Stuve at UFC on FOX 13.
UFC officials announced the bout on Wednesday evening.
Overeem (37-14) hasn’t had great luck as a UFC fighter, as his three losses in the promotion all come by way of knockout. He last was seen in the octagon against huge underdog Ben Rothwell in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 50, but Overeem suffered another loss via knockout. He last won against Frank Mir at UFC 169 in February, where he won a heavily one-sided unanimous decision.
Struve (25-6) last fought Mark Hunt in early 2013, but was unsuccessful and suffered a knockout loss. Prior to that, he was on a four fight winning streak, including a win over Top 5 heavyweight Stipe Miocic. While recovering from a broken jaw suffered in his fight with Hunt, it was discovered that he had a heart condition and wasn’t cleared to fight. He finally was set to come back at UFC 175 against Matt Mitrione but during the event before their fight, Struve nearly passed out and the fight was pulled from the card.
UFC on FOX 13 is the fourth FOX event of the year, and takes place at the US Airways Center in Phoenix on Dec. 13. No other bouts have been announced for the event, and it is expected to air live on FOX with prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
