The Ultimate Fighter Finale Tips – Holdsworth v Grant

David Grant has had an easy road to the Ultimate Fighter finale, after two of his opponents failed to make weight. This gifted Grant his place in the finale after looking impressive in the two fights that he did have in front of the cameras.

The British fighter is 27 years old and looks a tough opponent for Holdsworth. In his second fight on the show, he was down a point in the first round and needed to finish the fight in order to win. Grant wasted no time and went right after his opponent, finishing him via TKO.

Despite having all the tools necessary to cause many UFC Bantamweights a problem, Grant’s style of fighting doesn’t match up very well against the very dangerous Chris Holdsworth.

OUR VERDICT…

David Grant has had a lot of luck on the Ultimate Fighter as he only had to fight twice to make it to the finale. On Saturday night, he’ll need all the luck he can get as Chris Holdsworth is an extremely tough opponent for him.

Holdsworth trains at Team Alpha Male which is one of the top MMA fight teams in the country. He regularly trains alongside elite UFC fighters such as Urijah Faber, Miesha Tate and Joseph Benavidez. In all 4 of his fights on the Ultimate Fighter he looked extremely well rounded and comfortable wherever the fight took place.

The difference in this match up will almost certainly be the grappling, where Holdsworth has a significant advantage. Not only is he a Brazilian Ju Jitsu black belt, but Team Alpha Male fighters are also notorious for being excellent wrestlers. The most dangerous thing about Holdsworth is his ability to mix it up. He is extremely well rounded and is just as comfortable striking as he is grappling. This makes him unpredictable and a very tough opponent.

Two more reasons why we favour Holdsworth over Grant is that he fights at an incredible pace with excellent cardio. This could be a problem for the relatively inexperienced Grant as none of his previous fights have ever gone the distance. Holdsworth also has a size and reach advantage over Grant which only adds to the tough challenge that the Brit faces on Saturday night.

British fighters are well known for being years behind other countries in grappling. This is largely down to the fact that wrestling isn’t a sport that is promoted in schools. It’s unlikely that David Grant has grappling experience with the kind of guys that Holdsworth trains with every day. For this reason the Team Alpha Male product will look to take him down and grind out a victory.
