Paige VanZant vs Rose Namajunas Betting Tip Prediction for UFC Fight Night 80
When I write my betting tips I have to be very careful because I have a lot respect for any man or woman brave enough to step into a Cage and fight. I never want to sound like I am criticising a fighter’s skills or past performances, but I also have to be realistic. Paige VanZant has got to this point in her career through hardwork and determination, but hardwork and determination can only take you so far before you need the skills to back it up. Eventually, you hit a wall where you need to have a certain level of technical ability to compete against the best fighters in the world and Paige VanZant does not have the technical ability to compete against someone like Rose Namajunas. I admire Paige for how far she has come in this sport, but her recent performances have highlighted gigangic weaknesses in her overall skillset that a more skilled Martial Artist like Rose Namajunas will easily be able to capitalize on. Paige VanZant only started training in Martial Arts 4 years ago at the age of 17 and it really shows because she doesn’t look like a fighter, she doesn’t move like a fighter and she doesn’t have any fluidity to her technique. Rose started training Martial Arts when she was just 5 years old and has a Black Belt in Tae Kwon do, a Black Belt in Karate and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In this fight we are seeing Paige VanZant compete against a true Martial Artist for the very first time. Namajunas is a different test compared to Paige’s previous opponent’s because she has excellent technique in every single aspect of MMA. Rose is not like Paige’s previous opponent’s like Kailin Curran who was also young and inexperienced when they fought and she’s not like Felice Herrig who used to fight amateur Muay Thai and has talked about retirement many times. Paige’s win over a 36 year old Alex Chambers will not prepare her for an opponent like Rose Namajunas, who ran through Chambers like she was nothing on season 20 of the Ultimate Fighter. Rose is a massive, massive, massive step up in competition for Paige VanZant and I expect this fight to be a one sided destruction of one of the UFC’s most popular poster girls. This is a big mistake because Esparza is a far stronger grappler than Paige VanZant, with much better timing and technique. Paige does not possess anywhere near the level of wrestling she will need to control Rose Namajunas on the ground. If you go back and watch Paige’s last few fights you will notice that she has very poor top control and very poor takedowns. She also gets herself into a lot of trouble by going for submissions over maintaining position. If this fight goes to the ground, I expect Namajunas to use her superior technique to put on a grappling clinic. Rose was beating people with Flying Armbars when Paige was still taking her first few Boxercise classes. The grappling exchanges in this fight will not be competitive and Namajunas should dominate Paige on the ground. Paige VanZant’s standup game is non existent. She can’t throw a punch, she can’t throw a kick and I’ve seen Puppies that are more capable of blocking strikes. Namajunas has high level striking and the power to really hurt Paige standing up. Paige is at constant risk of being knocked out in this fight. Rose Namajunas wilted under the pressure of fighting Carla Esparza in her debut, but pressure makes diamonds and she’s still only 23 years old. It’s not easy making your debut in a 5 round title fight against a strong wrestler and I have no doubt that Rose will have grown a lot from that experience. I don’t give Paige VanZant any realistic chance of winning this fight. Rose would have to completely flake like she did in the Esparza fight for Paige to stand any chance at all. Whilst it’s possible that Rose could underperform again, I believe it’s highly unlikely because that fight was the only time in her career when she didn’t show up and fight to her full potential. I expect Rose to go out and make a statement by putting in a dominant performance. This should be any easy fight for her.Click here to read more of my betting tips, picks and predictions for UFC Fight Night 80 – Paige VanZant vs Rose Namajunas.
