Mark Hunt vs Frank Mir Betting Tip Prediction for UFC Fight Night 85
This is a classic striker vs grappler matchup with Mark Hunt being the striker and Frank Mir being the grappler. In order for Frank Mir to take this fight to the ground, he is going to have to put himself in extreme danger, because Mark Hunt is excellent at catching guys with knockout strikes as they enter his range and he’s also very good at exploding out of positions where he is at risk of being taken down or tied up. If this fight stays standing, Hunt will win. If Mir can get the fight to the ground or grind for significant periods against the cage, there’s a good chance that Mir will win. So the big question surrounding this fight is which guy will be able to keep the fight on his terms? Frank Mir has elite Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mark Hunt is in very big trouble if Mir does get him in a dominant position on the ground, but Mir’s takedown attempts are laboured and he quickly gasses out and gets disheartened if a few of his takedown attempts get stuffed. Mark Hunt is a master of distance and he does a great job of using his crippling power strikes to deter his opponents from entering his range. This is particularly useful against a fighter like Frank Mir who only shoots for one or two takedowns per fight. Mir is very easily deterred from shooting for takedowns if he feels he is at risk of getting knocked out, so if Hunt can stuff a few early takedowns and punish Mir on the exit, there’s a good chance that Mir won’t try to take him down for the rest of the fight. If that happens… This should turn into an easy fight for Mark Hunt, because Mir has very bad striking defence… [box type=”info” align=”aligncenter” class=”” width=””] We’ve already made 168.23 units of profit since we setup this website back in 2014. Mir’s striking has improved a lot in recent fights, but he’s still way too easy to hit and he’s much slower than Mark Hunt. Frank Mir has a great chin, but Hunt’s power is on another level. If Hunt hits you, he hurts you and Mir can’t rely on his chin to save him in this fight. One major weakness in Frank Mir’s skillset plays perfectly into one of Mark Hunt’s biggest strengths… If you go and watch some footage on Frank Mir you’ll notice that he wrecklessly rushes into his opponent’s striking range in a desperate attempt to tie them up so he can work them against the cage in the clinch. Hunt is extremely good at pre empting his opponent’s advances and he does a great job of circling out of danger, disengaging from clinch positions and landing significant strikes on the way out. Hunt can easily KO you dead with a hook or uppercut as you enter his range and Mir’s inability to defend himself when he closes the distance will leave him wide open to getting knocked out. Alistair Overeem is a high level K1 striker just like Hunt and he was able to repeatedly catch Mir with huge strikes as Mir rushed into his range. Hunt doesn’t have the same crisp technique as Overeem, but he certainly has the speed, power and ability to time his opponent. If Overeem was able to catch Mir on the way in, I think there is a very good chance that Hunt will be able to do the same. If this fight goes to the ground, Mark Hunt is obviously in a lot of trouble, but he does have very good takedown defence and he does an excellent job of scrambling back to his feet when he does get taken down. There’s a chapter in Mark’s Autobiography that explains how he would drill takedown defence and scrambles over and over and over again for months until he got good at them. You’ll see this in his fights… As soon as Mark hits the ground, he will immediately explode back to his feet and it’s not easy holding down a 265lbs man, no matter how strong of a grappler you are… We also have to take into consideration the fact that Mark Hunt has home advantage on his side. This is significant because he is extremely popular in Australia and staying in familiar surroundings will definitely give him an edge. Mark has often spoken about how the Australian crowd gives him strength in the Octagon and Frank Mir is used to fighting in the United States. Mir has had to fly 14 hours to Australia for this fight and a change in timezone, country, climate, surroundings and humidity is bound to have a negative impact on his performance. This bet isn’t rock solid, because Frank Mir does have significant advantages on the ground, but Hunt has shown over the last few years that he is hard to takedown and even harder to keep down. Mark Hunt is very good at using his power to deter his opponent’s from trying to enter his striking range or shoot for takedowns and Mir becomes very disheartened and easily gives up if he is not able to secure his first few takedown attempts in a fight. Hunt does a great job of stuffing takedowns early in his fights and I believe that this is a significant factor to take into consideration because Mir is likely to get disheartened early. At odds of around 1.74 | -131, I personally believe that Mark Hunt is a very good bet. We will also be in the public Chat Room during the event to talk about the fights live.
