Champions League and Europa League Betting Tips – Gameweek 3

Last night was a tricky night for both pregame and Live Betting. Thankfully we ended up hitting a lucky final minute winner on Ajax to go 2-1 on bets for a $96 overall profit on the night. I usually feel guilty when we hit lucky winners, but I feel like the luck evened out for us last night…

Valencia have a great defensive record this season, so when I saw them creating lots of goal scoring opportunities in the 1st half against Young Boys, I felt that they were a great bet when they were leading 1-0 at odds of 1.40 | -250 | 2/5. They also had Gameiro on the bench to come on and spice things up in the second half. I felt that Valencia were nailed on to grab at least one more goal in this game with the way that they were playing and their excellent defensive record should have ensured they won the game at least 2-0 or at worst 2-1.

Unfortunately, Valencia didn’t come out in the second half. This losing bet felt a lot like our losing bet on Lokomotiv Moscow to beat Schalke a few weeks back. Valencia’s second-half performance was pathetic. They were lethargic, and they looked disinterested. It was like they didn’t care about the outcome of the game in the 2nd half. It’s impossible to predict that kind of total flake job because you don’t expect teams to wilt so easily in big, must-win Champions League games.

Tonight looks much better for betting. I’ve spent hours researching these games, and there are tons of bets I am interested in. I am going to recommend a few of them for pregame bets to take the pressure off me tonight in Live Betting.

Last night I had quite a few bets in mind based on my pregame research, but I found it difficult to keep up with all the games that were taking place. This meant that I missed out on three winning bets that I felt would be great value under the right circumstances. The right conditions did occur last night in these games, but the chaos of having to keep up to speed with 6 simultaneous matches meant that I missed out on them. I was planning to bet:

Hoffenheim vs Lyon = Both teams to score: Yes
Hoffenheim vs Lyon = Game to end in a draw
Bayern Munich to beat AEK Athens

All of these bets ended up winning, but things were so chaotic last night that I decided to pass. On one hand, this is frustrating, but I also have to be realistic. I can’t watch 6 games at the same time. I need to prioritize, and this means that sometimes I will miss out on good opportunities. The worst thing I can do is jump into placing bets without being entirely sure and end up incurring big potential losses. I’d rather be cool, thoughtful and carefully consider each time we pull the trigger.

Last nights missed opportunities have led me to do things a bit differently tonight. I am going to lock in 3 pregame bets that I really like so that I can focus on watching the other games that are taking place.
