I spent 7 hours watching footage and researching each of the fighters competing at Bellator 132 and I felt very confident that every single one of these bets was going to win. The 7 hours I spent chained to a desk watching low level MMA turned out to be a complete waste of time, because all 3 of my bets for this event lost.
Our first loss came at the hands of Marius Zaromski, who completely abandoned his powerful kicks and technical striking in favour of fighting Fernando Gomez in a phone booth. This fight was close and the judges might have scored the fight in favour of Zaromski on another night, but it doesn’t really matter because he fought like an idiot and he deserved to lose.
Next up was a bet on one of the worst fights that I’ve ever seen. I basically came to the conclusion that Houston Alexander would be able to land takedowns and control Zwicker on the ground for a long enough period of time to win this fight by unanimous decision. This bet started off well, as Houston Alexander was able to perfectly execute this gameplan in the 1st round. Unfortunately, this changed in the second round, when he allowed Zwicker back into the fight. The 3rd round was pretty much a coin flip and could’ve gone either way. Zwicker was fighting in his hometown, so Alexander was never going to win a close fight, and inevitably the judges scored the fight in favour of Zwicker who won by split decision. I was kind of hoping that 2015 would be the year where I would start winning split decisions, but it appears my inability to win close fights continues…
My third loss of the night was on Bubba Jenkins who was briefly able to demonstrate his superb takedown skills before being choked unconscious by Georgi Karakhanyan. Karakhanyan has struggled to deal with wrestlers throughout his career and Bubba was able to take him down fairly easily. It is unfortunately that Bubba didn’t get more of an opportunity to showcase his high level wrestling, before being choked unconscious by Karakhanyan within just a couple of minutes in the 1st round.
I’m really sorry about this event, but I feel very confident that we’ll bounce back with wins on WSOF 17 and UFC Fight Night 59. It was really harsh to lose all 3 fights under such close circumstances but I guess that’s just the way it goes sometimes…
