[adrotate group=”103″]I’d forgotten how painful it was to write a results article about a big loss, because this is the first time we’ve made a loss like this in over 3 months.
I believe that my results articles are one of the main reasons why I am so successful at MMA betting. After all, there’s nothing more uncomfortable than facing up to your losses and having to write about them. These articles help me by forcing me to look at my mistakes right in the eyes and learn from them. Most people will just bury their losses and move on without really learning anything, where as I look at each of my losses as an opportunity to learn and get better.
The frustrating thing about this event was that I genuinely feel like I made the right call on all 4 losing bets. With hindsight it’s easy to say that some of the bets were a little square, but the footage, stats and information we had available to us prior to this event made Pearson, Hester and Zachrich the correct plays.
Take Pearson for example. In his last few fights he has looked sharp and technical and he’s been approaching fights with a much more calculated style of fighting. Then, for no reason at all, he decides to revert back to his old style of fighting of just walking people down and hoping to catch them with something big. He barely used any footwork, he didn’t cut angles and he didn’t try to outbox Iaquinta. It was frustrating to watch because Iaquinta has only showed low level striking up until this point and I know that Ross is so much better than what he showed last night. Of all the people competing on the card, Ross is the last guy who I would’ve thought would have shown up and under perform. He always brings it and this performance was completely out of character.
Clint Hester didn’t lose the fight because of anything that he did wrong, it was just that Robert Whittaker showed up and put in an amazing performance that was completely out of character. This bet is frustrating, because Whittaker has looked tentative and nervous in his last few fights, then he comes out and fights like an aggressive murderer against Hester. There was no way to see this loss coming…
For me Dan Kelly beating Luke Zachrich was the most shocking loss of all. Not because Zachrich is anything special, but because Kelly is so bad. Even in victory he looked sloppy, soft and awkward! This was a truly terrible performance from Zachrich and within seconds of the fight starting I felt like he was looking for a way out. He didn’t show up at all and he lost this fight against one of the worst guys to ever compete in the modern era of the UFC. The crazy thing is that Dan Kelly now has a pro MMA record of 8-0, which is nuts when you consider just how bad he really is.
The bet on Rockhold vs Bisping to go over 2.5 rounds wasn’t a bad bet, but I do feel like I should have avoided it. There were just far too many questions over how much better Rockhold would be than Bisping and whilst I do feel like Boetsch and Phillipou gifted Rockhold their early losses, I should have avoided this bet and played it safe.
I’m really disappointed with these results but we’ve been doing so well over the last few months that a loss like this had to happen eventually. We now look to get back on track with a win from our bets for UFC Fight Night 56. I’m feeling very confident that we can bounce back with a good profit. There are still 4 huge MMA events left this month which gives us a good opportunity to finish November with a profit.
