Andrey Koreshkov vs Benson Henderson Betting Tip Prediction
I am a big fan of Benson Henderson because I think he’s a great fighter and a great person. I really want to see him do well in Bellator but as a fan I was concerned when I found out that he’d be fighting an 18-1 Russian in his Bellator debut. Russian fighters are notoriously tough and well rounded and Benson has a habit of making fights closer than they need to be. Thankfully, Koreshkov’s outstanding 18-1 record says more about the lack of talent in Bellator’s Welterweight division than his skills as a fighter. I’m not saying Koreshkov is a bad fighter, but he’s not on the same level as Benson Henderson in any area of MMA. Koreshkov is tall and long, but like many lanky fighters he struggles to use his range. His thin frame makes it difficult for him to defend takedowns and his wrestling isn’t that powerful. He also has really slow reaction times which means his striking defence isn’t that good. Benson Henderson likes to attack his opponent with a blitz style of Tae Kwon Do and Koreshkov just isn’t fast enough or technical enough to neutralize this kind of attack. If this fight stays standing, I expect Benson to fight on the outside whilst Koreshkov takes the centre of the cage. Koreshkov will apply a lot of pressure, but his striking technique leaves him wide open to being countered. I expect Benson to use his power to back Koreshkov up and win rounds by landing the more significant strikes. I believe that the big difference in this fight will be wrestling and grappling. Koreshkov might be taller than Benson, but Benson is built like an NFL Running Back and what he lacks in length he makes up for in takedown defence and the ability to drive through his opponent’s with powerful takedowns. Koreshkov doesn’t have very good takedown defence and he’s also weak in the clinch. Benson should be able to use his strong wrestling and high level BJJ to grind on Koreshkov. Benson Henderson’s fights might always appear to be close, but he also has great fight IQ and he does a really good job of winning rounds. With 1 minute left to go in every round you’ll almost always see Benson turn things up and land a big takedown or some big strikes that normally seal the round for him and leave a lasting impression on the judges scorecards. This is the reason why Benson wins so many decisions. He could quite often be losing a round, but his ability to turn it up towards the end of the round makes him very hard to beat. I don’t see this veteran fight IQ in a guy like Andrey Koreshkov, which means Benson has a significant advantage in this fight. I expect Benson Henderson to win this fight by having the more significant moments. Nobody in the history of MMA does squash matches as well as Bellator. Just when you think that they can’t possibly feed anymore cans to Michael Page, they manage to find a 7-1 fighter on the regional circuit with no wrestling, no knockout power, no grappling skills and no hope of winning this fight. Bellator have already booked Michael Page for a main card fight on Bellator 158 in London, so it’s pretty clear that this is a tuneup fight for Page. It’s clear that Bellator doesn’t expect Holloway to be able to hurt Michael Page and neither do I. I expect Michael Page to win this easily by dancing around on the outside until he punches Holloway’s face off. I guess there’s a chance Page could drag this one out and grind on Holloway like he did to Nashon Burrell, but his striking is so far ahead of Holloway’s that the most likely outcome of this fight will be Page by KO in round 1…
