MAURICIO SHOGUN RUA vs OVINCE ST PREUX
Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Ovince St Preux both possess knock out power and they’re both easy to hit, which should make this an exciting match up. The wide open fighting styles of both guys make it difficult to predict who will win this fight, but it does present us with a good opportunity to make money by betting on this fight to last less than 2.5 rounds.
Ovince St Preux hasn’t been finished in the last 5 years but he also hasn’t fought anyone that has anywhere near the same level of power and accuracy as Shogun. If you go back and watch his past fights, you will notice that he quickly loses his composure when he gets hit with a clean punch. This is suicide against a powerful and accurate striker like Shogun and I wouldn’t be surprised if OSP gets knocked out.
Shogun fights with a fearless attitude and he doesn’t seem to care about his health or his consciousness. He likes to push the pace of a fight, initiate striking exchanges and put pressure on his opponents. This type of aggressive fighting style is normally a strength, but in Shogun’s case it is also a weakness, because he fights in a flat footed stance and doesn’t use head movement to roll with the punches. His flat footed fighting stance means that it’s easy to land punches on him and they do a lot of damage when they do land because his feet are planted, which means he absorbs the full impact of the strike. OSP might not be the best striker in the world, but he does has a 4 inch reach advantage and power in his hands which could cause Shogun problems. OSP also fights out of the Southpaw stance which will make it easier for him to land strikes on Shogun.
Both these guys are at their best when they are allowed to take control of the Octagon and put pressure on their opponents. This willingness to come forward and engage means that it is highly likely that we’ll see some big striking exchanges early on in the fight. Both these guys are extremely fast starters and I can’t see there being much of a feeling out process, because they will both want to establish Octagon Control.
Whilst I’m not able to pick a winner in this fight, I am very confident that it will last less than 2.5 rounds, because both these guys have power, both of them are easy to hit and Shogun is nowhere near as durable as he used to be…

IAN McCALL vs JOHN LINEKER
Ian McCall has fought to a decision in 9 out of his last 11 fights, making him extremely tough to finish and at the same time not much of a finisher himself. Some of these decisions include 3 and 5 round fights against some of the best guys in the world including Demetrious Johnson, Joseph Benavidez and Dominick Cruz.
John Lineker is a powerful striker but Ian McCall is tough as hell and he’s survived to a decision against some of the biggest power punches in the UFC’s Flyweight and Bantamweight divisions. McCall’s durability is largely down to his elusive fighting style and his exceptional footwork. He does a great job of constantly moving and using footwork to stay out of his opponents range. This makes it really difficult for his opponents to time him and land anything significant.
John Lineker is equally difficult to finish, having only been finished 3 times in 31 professional fights. This record is even more impressive when you take into consideration the fact that he has competed in higher weight classes for the majority of his career.
McCall is the favourite in this fight, but his fights are always close and John Lineker is a dangerous opponent for anyone in the UFC’s Flyweight division. I’m not sure who’s going to win this fight, but I am confident that it will last longer than 2.5 rounds…
