BEST FANTASY MMA PICKS
VITOR BELFORT
COST: HIGH
My best Fantasy MMA pick for UFC Fight Night 77 is Vitor Belfort. I think Belfort is a great pick because I believe he’ll score big points by winning this fight in the 1st round via knockout or TKO. He is fighting Dan Henderson and both fighters are legends in the sport. Both have a lot a MMA “miles” on their body. But at this point, I don’t think Dan Henderson has much left in his tank. His chin has deteriorated badly over the past few years. He is 45 years old now, while Vitor is still just 38. Vitor will have a speed advantage and it will only be a matter of time before he cracks that chin of Hendo and finishes him.
COREY ANDERSON
COST: HIGH
Corey Anderson is another solid Fantasy MMA pick that you should seriously consider putting in your team. He does come with a high price tag, but I believe he will score you big points. It’s no secret that his opponent Fabio Maldanaldo wants to make this a boxing match. That is really his only avenue to victory in this fight. I believe Corey will do to Maldanaldo exactly what he did to Jan Blachowicz. He will use his wrestling to dominate the fight from the opening bell. He will secure a number of takedowns and use ground and pound to score you even more points. At worst, I see Corey winning a dominant decision. That is 30 points plus 3 points per takedown and all that ground and pound. Corey scored around 100 points in his decision win vs Blachowicz and I see him scoring a similar number of points against Maldonado.

DANGEROUS DOGS
ANTHONY BIRCHAK
COST: LOW
I am shocked to see that Thomas Almeida is a 4.5 to 1 favorite over Anthony Birchak. Sure, Almeida is 19-0, with a 3-0 record in the UF, but my problem with him is that he gets hit too much. Tim Gorman lit him up all night with jabs and busted him up. An over the hill Brad Pickett floored him in round 1 and was winning the striking exchanges until he was caught by a low percentage “double flying” knee that ended Pickett’s night. Anthony Birchak is a good fighter. He just KO’d Joe Soto early in round 1 in his last fight. This is something that took TJ Dillashaw 5 rounds to accomplish. Almeida can not continue to get hit and rocked as much as he does and continue to win. Birchak has a good ground game as well. If he can hurt Almeida like others have done, I don’t think he will let him off the hook. He will finish the fight by not letting him of the hook or applying a fight ending submission. It it a tough fight to call and the betting line is ridiculous. I think Almeida should be a 2-1 favorite or LESS. So, at Birchak’s very low price tag, I think there is a chance to score big points whilst spending very little of your salary cap.

FIGHTERS TO AVOID
CLAY GUIDA and THIAGO TAVARES
COST: MEDIUM
I would avoid having either of these fighters on your Fantasy MMA team. They both have a very tentative style of fighting. They both work for takedowns and do not do much damage when they actually secure top position, especially Clay Guida. Also, when Guida has trouble securing takedowns, he doesn’t engage much or even let his opponent get close enough to take him down. I do not see a stoppage in this fight. It will most likely go to a decision. That means both fighters will not score many points for your team. I would stay away from both of these fighters. There are many other options on this card that will likely score higher than either Tavares or Guida. I advise staying away from these 2 fighters.
