Dos Anjos has the strong wrestling and grappling control of GSP, with the solid technical Muay Thai that helped Jose Aldo put together a 10 year long winning streak. I’m not going to call Donald Cerrone overrated, but he’s remembered more for his highlight reel finishes and personality than his overall performances. Cerrone is simply not in the same league as Rafael Dos Anjos and I don’t see this fight being competitive at all. Cerrone’s biggest problem is that he’s a slow starter and he struggles to impose himself on opponent’s who are more technically skilled. If you can outstrike Cerrone, he tends to go into a defensive shell and look for the highlight reel knockout as opposed to setting up his power strikes or trying to land a higher volume of strikes on his opponent. Rafael Dos Anjos has some of the best body and leg kicks in all of MMA and Cerrone’s flat footed style of fighting leaves him wide open to getting blasted by RDA’s devastating kicks. Donald Cerrone is very thin, which leaves his ribs and legs exposed to RDA’s fight ending kicks. I believe that RDA’s ability to inflict significant damage with his kicking game will be his key to victory because he uses his kicks early and often and I don’t see how Cerrone is going to be able to stop him from landing. RDA finished Benson Henderson with a 1st round body kick and Nate Diaz could barely walk by the second round of their fight. Attacks to the body and leg will be a significant factor in this fight and they will start to take their toll on Cerrone’s cardio, output and mobility the longer the fight goes on… One of RDA’s biggest advantages in this fight is that he fights out of the Southpaw stance and Cerrone has historically struggled against Southpaw’s. RDA’s lefty stance opens up Cerrone’s body and legs to RDA’s devastating kicks, which makes RDA’s kicking game even more dangerous. Rafael Dos Anjos is the exact kind of fighter that I love to bet on because he’s ruthlessly consistent and always does exactly what he needs to do to win. I love how he attacks the body and legs of his opponent early in a matchup, so that their mobility and cardio is effected later on in a fight and I also love how he takes the centre of the Octagon and applies constant pressure, so that his opponent’s can never settle into a rhythm. This means that betting just $10 a unit on each of our betting tips would have resulted in a profit of $1859. Betting $100 per unit would have resulted in a profit of $18,596 and betting $1000 per unit would have resulted in a profit of $185,960. This makes them more hesitant to commit to strikes, because they’re worried about being taken down. RDA’s ability to make his opponent’s fight on his terms is the main reason why I think he is going to beat Donald Cerrone. Cerrone tends to head hunt when he is losing a fight and he’s going to be playing catchup for the entire duration of this matchup because he won’t be able to deal with RDA’s high volume striking or strong grappling. Skill for skill, Cerrone has nothing for Rafael Dos Anjos, but the one question mark surrounding this matchup is whether RDA will be effected by the new USADA regulations. The truth is that these are uncertain times for MMA and there’s really no way of knowing which fighters are going to be effected by the new drug testing policies. All we can do is try to make the best decisions based on the information that we have available. What I do know is that RDA looked great in the Road to the Octagon video, he looked great at the weigh ins and he also looked great in recent training pictures. It’s important to remember that the new USADA testing will effect every fighter and the strict drug testing policies and inability to use an IV will also have an impact on Donald Cerrone. Rafael Dos Anjos has never been caught using PEDs, whilst Cerrone was caught and suspended back in 2007 for using Diuretics which are an illegal substance that fighters use to cut weight. If RDA really is effected by the new USADA testing, then it’s reasonable to assume that Cerrone will also be effected. All we can do is work with the information we have available to us and bet on the fighter who holds significant advantages over their opponent. In this case, that fighter is clearly Rafael Dos Anjos and I believe that he’s a great bet because he holds significant advantages over Donald Cerrone in every single aspect of MMA.
