We made a profit of 1.1 units from our bets at UFC on FOX 14. We’ve now made a profit in 5 out of the last 6 MMA events and I’m very confident that we’re going to end the month with a big win at UFC 183.
We lost money on Alexander Gustafsson, but I attended UFC on FOX 14 in Stockholm and I’m kind of glad that Anthony Johnson won. I’m not sure if the hostile atmosphere came across on TV, but the Swedish fans really got behind Gustafsson and made the arena a very intimidating place for Anthony Johnson. I felt bad for Johnson because he was all alone in an arena packed full of people that wanted to see him lose.
I personally could never “boo” an MMA fighter and I think it’s very disrespectful to show negativity towards someone that risks their own personal safety for our entertainment. Johnson came through huge adversity on Saturday night, so I was genuinely happy to see him win. That’s not to say that I was happy to see Gustafsson lose, it was just nice to see Johnson get the win after coming into such hostile territory.
Having reviewed both losses, I don’t think that I made any mistakes because my fight research indicated that Ogle and Gustafsson had a great chance of winning. I put both those losses down to spectacular performances by Anthony Johnson and Makwan Amirkhani.
Amirkhani looked great against Ogle and his knockout was spectacular, but he’s looked very poor in his fights prior to the UFC. I really hope that he lives up to his hype because Europe needs more fighters with charisma, but I’m not yet convinced. Like I said, he looked very poor in his previous fights and you can’t gauge how good a fighter is when their debut is only 8 seconds long! If Ogle would’ve survived the early onslaught it could’ve been a very different fight.
I also believe that Gustafsson was a good bet. The odds weren’t great but I felt that Johnson’s path to victory was very limited. At the time, I had no idea that a headbutt led to Gustafsson getting hurt, but I also loved how Johnson swarmed Gustafsson and never let him recover. It could be very interesting if Johnson lands big on Jon Jones. Gustafsson is tough as nails and Johnson didn’t give him any time to recover. Johnson showed a real killer instinct and you could see that there was no way Gustafsson would be able to recover because Johnson refused to give him any space. Jon Jones likes to fight on the inside, but he’s not going to be able to do that against Johnson incase he gets tagged. I’m really looking forward to Anthony Johnson vs Jon Jones already!
Here’s a video of the headbutt that changed the fight. A big thanks to Chuck Woolery who sent it through to me.
I’ve already begun my research for UFC 183 and I should have my picks out for that event within the next couple of days. UFC 183 looks great for betting with a few excellent value underdog picks that should help us end the month with a big win.
