[adrotate group=”106″]I hate UFC events in Brazil. In a way they’re good because they’re often exciting and the atmosphere is great, but they’re also a nightmare to bet on because the referees are unpredictable, the judges are biast towards Brazilian fighters and the crowd create an intimidating atmosphere that effects the performances of non Brazilian fighters.
Picking good value betting tips for Brazilian UFC events is like tap dancing in a minefield, but despite the challenges faced I do feel confident that we’ve identified 2 betting tips that can return us a profit on this event.
I’d also like to apologise for the delay in releasing our betting tips for this event. The odds were released later than normal and that set us back a couple of days. This was also a difficult event to research because we were leaning towards tipping several non Brazilian fighters, before eventually deciding not to.
We’ve already written our
betting tips, picks and predictions for UFC 178, so don’t forget to check them out!

GLEISON TIBAU vs PIOTR HALLMANN
In the past I would’ve been worried about betting on Gleison Tibau to win this fight, because Piotr Hallmann fights at a relentless pace and Tibau has been known to suffer with bad cardio.
Luckily for us, Tibau seems to have put his cardio issues behind him and he looked great in his last fight against Pat Healy. Tibau is now training at American Top Team and he’s starting to look like the complete fighter.
I’m finding it really difficult to see a way that Piotr Hallmann can win this fight. Hallmann uses a grinding, smothering style to wear his opponents down and score points with take downs and top control. This strategy is going to be really difficult to use against Tibau, because Tibau is an excellent grappler, with good counter striking and elite take down defence. Tibau has now competed in the UFC a staggering 22 times and within that period he has managed to defend 92% of all take down attempts. Hallmann doesn’t have very good wrestling offence and his take down attempts are sloppy. I seriously doubt that he’ll be able to get Tibau to the ground.
When it comes to striking there really is no competition. Hallmann plods forward with a clumsy, awkward style, but his high pressure, low technique style will result in him getting lit up by Tibau’s powerful counter striking. Gleison Tibau is also a Southpaw striker, which nearly always spells trouble for sloppy fighters like Hallmann.
Piotr Hallmann does not have finishing power, he doesn’t have very good take downs and his striking is really bad. It’s very unlikely that he will be able to put in a performance that is dominant enough to sway the Brazilian judges and for that reason I feel really confident in a bet on Tibau.
OUR BETTING TIP: 10.00 Units on Gleison Tibau to win at odds of 1.50 | -200 | 1/2

EFRAIN ESCUDERO vs LEONARDO SANTOS
I’m really surprised that the UFC decided to bring back Efrain Escudero because he’s a really bad fighter. I don’t rate Leonardo Santos at all, but it’s impossible not to bet on almost anyone in the UFC against a guy like Escudero…
Escudero’s problem is that he is far too tentative and he’s a very reactive fighter. He’s always waiting to get taken down or beaten up in stand up exchanges before he decides to do anything and by then, it’s far too late.
Leonardo is a rangey striker who definitely has the skills necessary to pick Escudero apart. Santos also has a very good ground game and he should easily be able to handle Escudero if this fight goes to the ground.
I never thought that I would tip Leonardo Santos to win a fight, but I’d also never thought I’d see the day when a guy like Efrain Escudero would make it onto the main card of a UFC event. There’s really not a lot I can say about this fight. Santos should win this one comfortably…
OUR BETTING TIP: 10.00 Units on Leonardo Santos to win at odds of 1.53 | -189 | 53/100
