The stage was set on Saturday night as two of Ronda Rousey’s fighters took on two of Miesha Tate’s fighters in The Ultimate Fighter Finale. Julianna Peña would square off against Jessica Rakoczy, whilst Chris Holdsworth and David Grant would compete for the 6 figure UFC contract in the Mens Bantamweight Division.
If The Ultimate Fighter was a competition between which coach could talk the best trash, then Ronda Rousey certainly would have won. Unfortunately it appears that a strong work ethic and positive energy seems to produce better results with both of Miesha Tate’s fighters walking away with wins on Saturday night.
Julianna Peña defeated Jessica Rakoczy in the first round via ground and pound. Whilst Chris Holdsworth waited until the second round before stopping British fighter, David Grant with a rear naked choke.
Miesha Tate approached the Ultimate Fighter in a completely different way to her rival and it appears to have paid dividends. Not only did she win The Ultimate Fighter, but she also appears to have gained a massive fan base on the back of the show.
In a recent vote by EA Sports to determine which fighter would appear on the cover of the new UFC game, Miesha Tate came out on top of the poll with more votes than Ronda Rousey. This only highlights that there could be a shift in the popularity stakes in the Womens Bantamweight Division. Does this mean that Miesha might be able to steal the gold from around the waist of Rousey come December 28th? Who knows, but it certainly appears as if the challenger has got inside the champions head.
On this occasion the good guys certainly didn’t finish last and Rousey’s bullying tactics didn’t pay off in the end. Lets just hope that they don’t pay off on December 28th either and that we have a new Womens Bantamweight champion crowned for the new year.
