We said in our betting tip for this fight that if Varner could keep this fight on the ground he would win. We also said that Varner gets sucked into crazy stand up wars and that it would be a bad idea getting into a fight like that against a powerful knock out artist like Trujillo.
In the 1st round Varner was controlling Trujillo on the ground, but chose to stand and trade punches with him in the second. Trujillo eventually caught Varner with a big right hook, knocking him out and scoring us a 12.50 Units profit for this fight. Thanks Abel, we owe you a drink.

ALI BAGAUTINOV v JOHN LINEKER

This was a frustrating fight to watch. John Lineker definitely looked like the more dangerous fighter, but Bagautinov was able to take him down whenever he wanted. This was surprising, as Lineker has demonstrated decent takedown defence throughout his career.
The most disappointing part about this fight, was that Lineker was beaten by boring lay and pray tactics. Bagautinov repeatedly took him down and laid on top of him, without mounting any offence.
In all honesty there’s not a lot we could do about this one. Lineker has previously showed good take down defence, but he was easily taken down throughout this fight. Many people were calling this a number one contender match up, but I’m not convinced. Bagautinov lacked striking, did nothing from his dominant positions and also looked tired in the second round. Demetrious Johnson would destroy him….

ALISTAIR OVEREEM v FRANK MIR

Everyone knew Alistair Overeem was going to win this fight, including Frank Mir who said during the UFC countdown show that he didn’t believe he had much of a chance in this fight. What was surprising was the way in which Overeem went about winning. He completely controlled Mir for three rounds and never looked in any danger. He also demonstrated his solid ground game, which we don’t often get a chance to see and managed to pull off a very impressive performance, without his signature impressive finish.
This was one of the safest bets you’re likely to find in MMA, so we hope you cashed in on it. Who knows what will become of Frank Mir now that he has lost 4 fights in a row, but people are already calling for an Overeem v Dos Santos match up.

RENAN BARAO v URIJAH FABER
OUR BET: 20.00 Units on Renan Barao to win @ 1.36 | -275 | 4/11

We focused heavily on the stats in our betting tip for this fight, but the stats never mattered in the end. Barao came out and landed some big shots on Faber in the 1st round and from then on there was only going to be one winner.
Faber complained of an early stoppage in the first round and I agree with him, but if the referee let the fight continue, then it wouldn’t have changed the outcome of this fight. Barao was always going to win.
Barao has now won 31 fights in a row and it’s difficult to see anyone that can challenge him for his title. You have to consider him as one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world and a fight against anyone else in the UFC’s Bantamweight division would surely only hand another win to the Brazilian.
