UFC Betting Tips For UFC 166 – Gilbert Melendez v Diego Sanchez

Many people believe that Gilbert Melendez should be the current UFC Lightweight Champion after losing a close split decision in his title fight against Benson Henderson.

Whilst Melendez is a force in the lightweight division, when you take a moment to look past his hype train, this fight is actually a lot closer than the betting lines would have you believe.

Diego Sanchez has only fought 5 times in the last 4 years, but despite not having a lot of recent information to work with, what we do know is that Diego has a habit of dragging people into wars. He’s also fought a much higher calibre of opponent throughout his career, with many of his losses coming against top level competition.

Diego Sanchez looked really good in his last fight against Takanori Gomi and we still don’t know that much about Gilbert Melendez’s ability to mix it up with the best lightweights in the world. Afterall, Benson Henderson put in an uncharacteristically bad performance when they fought back in April.

One thing’s for sure. This fight has got fight of the night written all over it!

Whilst Gilbert Melendez is faster and more technical than Diego Sanchez, Sanchez definitely has a size and strength advantage.

This should be a close fight and at outstanding odds of 6.00 or 6/1, we’ve got to go with Diego Sanchez for the win. There’s just a crazy amount of value in those betting lines, we have to take advantage of them and root for the underdog.
