[divider] NATE DIAZ vs RAFAEL DOS ANJOS Rafael Dos Anjos is a much better fighter than Nate Diaz and I was expecting the odds on Dos Anjos to win to open up at around 1.25 | -400 | 1/4. I was delighted when the odds on Dos Anjos to win climbed as high as 1.46 | -217 | 23/50 and it appears that Nate Diaz’s star power has led to a little extra value in the odds. Luckily for us, star power counts for nothing in the Octagon and the current odds present us with a great opportunity to make some money. I worry for Nate’s future as a Mixed Martial Artist and I’m really questioning how he stays relevant in the UFC. He’s been battling for a bigger contract, but having watched his last few fights I doubt whether he is capable of breaking back into the top 10. Nate’s problem is that he’s tough and because he’s tough he doesn’t bother to block strikes. This makes him very easy to hit and being easy to hit is suicide against a fighter like Dos Anjos, who has powerful punches and brutal kicks. Nate has only been out of action for a year, but I feel that MMA has moved on since he started fighting and he hasn’t evolved with the sport. Nate is always involved in exciting fights, but his style just isn’t good enough to compete with the fighters at the top of the Lightweight division. Being tough is a great attribute in MMA, but being tough isn’t enough to hang with the best in the world. Take a look at Rafael Dos Anjos. When he first came into the UFC, he didn’t have very good striking and he lacked speed and power. He was just a pure BJJ guy, who looked to drag his opponents to the ground and control them with his world class grappling. Now he is extremely well rounded with good enough striking to finish a guy like Benson Henderson. Being tough can only take you so far and Nate Diaz hasn’t addressed the huge holes in his skillset which will leave him vulnerable against well rounded fighters like Dos Anjos. Rafael Dos Anjos is a much better striker than Nate Diaz, because he throws a wider range of strikes and he’s faster and more powerful. Nate doesn’t throw kicks and he doesn’t block them either, which is a huge concern in this fight because Dos Anjos has superb kicks. He should easily be able to chop down Nate’s lead leg with his brutal leg kicks and land the same vicious body kicks that led to the downfall of Benson Henderson. Dos Anjos is also a better grappler than Nate. He’s a high level Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with a strong submission game and strong grappling control. If this fight goes to the ground, Dos Anjos has good enough Jiu Jitsu to avoid Diaz’s submissions and good enough wrestling to maintain a dominant position. This week Diaz missed the media workouts, showed up late to a press conference and missed weight by almost 5 pounds. I’m starting to question whether Diaz still want to fight and he could just be turning up for a paycheck. Dos Anjos will tell anyone who is willing to listen that he wants a title shot and he looked incredible in his last fight against Benson Henderson. These two fighter’s careers are heading in very different directions. I love betting on Rafael Dos Anjos because he’s hard to finish, well rounded and he shows signs of improvement in almost every fight. He’s also one of the safest guys to bet on at Lightweight, having only lost once in his last 8 fights. I recommend that you place a big 20 unit bet on Dos Anjos to win, because Dos Anjos has a great chin, superb submission defence and Diaz literally has no path to victory. Diaz has nothing for Dos Anjos here… Don’t forget to checkout my Premium Betting Tips for UFC on FOX 13.
