Gameweek 7 in the Premier League marks the end of the second month in my Football Betting Challenge, and I am very pleased by the amount of money I have won so far. In total, I’ve made around £6000 profit betting on Football in just 3 months.
Before starting this experiment, I had no idea what would happen. All I knew is that there was a chance that we would no longer be able to Live bet on the UFC after the BT Sport broadcasting deal expired on December 3rd, so I had to find a plan B. In desperation, I thought I’d see if I could use my skills to make money betting on another sport. I chose football. It was either that or face the possibility of having to go back to working a job I hated.
The future is still very uncertain as to whether we will be able to Livebet UFC after December 3rd, but I am becoming increasingly confident that I can make just as much money betting on football.
If I’m completely honest I believe I can make much more money betting on football due to significantly higher liquidity and due to the massive amount of games that take place each week.
Since the beginning of the World Cup, I’ve placed over 200 bets and ground out a decent sized profit. Initially, I was concerned that the money I was making was down to beginners luck, but after 200 bets this paranoid feeling of “this is too good to be true” is starting to fade away.
I was speaking to my Wife about this challenge the other day and came up with a cool analogy about the reason why I may have had so much success betting on football. I’ve mentioned many times before that in hindsight I now believe that it is extremely difficult to make money betting on UFC and yet I’ve been able to grind out profits for around 8 years now consistently.
MMA is so hard to make money betting that when you switch to betting anything else, it just feels so much easier!
It’s like running Marathons…
The London Marathon and the London Parks Half Marathon are both very challenging. They’ll push you to your physical and emotional limits. But imagine how much easier the Parks Half Marathon would feel after you trained for and completed the full London Marathon?
It’s like weight training! Lighter weights feel so much lighter when you get used to lifting heavy weights!
I feel that this is exactly the phenomenon I’ve experienced with Football Betting. Making money betting on MMA is such a difficult thing to do over a long period, that now when I go to bet other sports I can figure out ways to make money betting on them quite quickly.
As we enter the third month of my Football Betting Challenge, I am incredibly optimistic because I am still learning and making bad bets all the time. I am constantly beating myself up over bad bets and bad decisions I make, while constantly learning and tweaking my strategies. As each month passes, I believe I’ll get better, and I’ll start to make gradual improvements which will result in increased profits.
Last week was a true rollercoaster which epitomizes what I am talking about. In the first half of the week, we made insane profits betting on the Premier League, Champions League, and Europa League but then dumped off a significant amount of those profits betting on the weekend’s action. Had I done things slightly differently we would have banked a monster profit last week and then done a much better job of protecting those profits. But I need to stop being so hard on myself; I’m making more money from betting on football after just 3 months than a lot of people earn from their day job! How freakin’ crazy is that? Sure I’m placing a lot of bad bets right now, but I’m slowly learning what works and what doesn’t. In the near future, I promise you that I will nail this. Just like I’ve been nailing Livebetting on the UFC for the past 8 years.
I look at the dumb bets that I’ve made in recent weeks as tuition fees. I’m learning my craft and paying for an education that could lead to huge gains further down the road.
As we head into October, I want to thank you for following me on this journey. Who knows how long it will last. Maybe it will go on forever, and I’ll turn this into a decent career, or perhaps I’ll crash and burn. Either way, I look forward to seeing you in the Livebetting Chat Room this weekend.
Thanks for reading. Take care.
