Free Betting Tips, Picks & Predictions For UFC 181 Allsopp Uncategorized December 2, 2014 When I first saw the line up of fights for UFC 181 I got really excited because it looked like a great event to bet on. Unfortunately the odds didn’t quite live up to my expectations and this whole card consists of over priced favourites and very close match ups. I always like to kick off a brand new month with a win, so I’m playing UFC 181 very carefully. This means that I’ve only got 3 betting tips for this event but I’m very confident that all 3 of them will win. 1 of these betting tips can be viewed in this article for free and the other 2 are available to my Premium Members. [divider] ANTHONY PETTIS vs GILBERT MELENDEZ Anthony Pettis should win this fight because he’s too fast and too explosive for Gilbert Melendez. I don’t want to sound like I’m dismissing Gil’s skills as a fighter. It’s just that Gil doesn’t have the relentless, grinding style of wrestling that could cause Pettis problems. Gilbert Melendez mixes up his striking and grappling really well and he’s also great at catching kicks and turning them into take downs. This is obviously a concern because Pettis does throw a lot of kicks, but he throws them with such speed and accuracy that I don’t believe Melendez will be able to catch his kicks and turn them into takedowns. Pettis also does a great job of throwing kicks with almost no wind up, which makes it hard to see them coming and very hard to stop. Pettis is so fast that I believe Melendez is going to find it really difficult to land take downs the way he normally does from catching kicks. I expect this fight to stay standing, because whilst Melendez is a good grappler, he doesn’t have the best takedowns and Anthony Pettis has really good take down defence. The longer this fight stays standing, the more difficult it will be for Melendez and I can definitely see Pettis winning this fight by knock out or TKO in the first couple of rounds. Anthony Pettis can fight out of the Southpaw or Orthodox stance and his strikes are so fast and accurate that even an experienced striker like Melendez is going to struggle to deal with his stand up game. There’s always question marks over how Anthony Pettis is going to look due the the length of time that he has been out injured. What you have to remember is that “Showtime” always turns up and looks great. It’s also worth noting that Melendez has been out of action almost as long as Pettis, so I don’t believe that ring rust will play too much of a factor in this fight. Gilbert Melendez is now almost 33 years old, which means he’s just past his peak and starting to decline. Testosterone levels start to drop rapidly when you hit the age of 32 and years of competition will start to take their toll on his body. Anthony Pettis is still only 27 and he hasn’t even reached his peak yet. I feel that the long lay off will hurt Melendez more than it will hurt Pettis. Both these guys are at very different stages in their career and it’s very likely that we’ll see a slightly improved version of Anthony Pettis as he continues to develop. Pettis’ advantages are so significant that I have been contemplating placing a 20 unit bet on him to win [10% of your bankroll]. The only thing stopping me from doing this, is the fact that Pettis does take risks and Melendez is a crafty veteran who is well positioned to capitalize on his mistakes. Something crazy is going to have to happen in order for Melendez to win this fight, but “Showtime” does like to take risks which stops me from going big. You can still bet on Anthony Pettis to win at odds of 1.50 | -200 | 1/2 at some European, Canadian and Australian Sportsbooks. The odds on Pettis to win are worsening fast, so you should place your bets as soon as possible. Click here to checkout my Premium Betting Tips, Picks and Predictions for UFC 181.
