MMA Betting Results For UFC 180 – 30.00 Units Loss

[adrotate group=”103″]November is my favourite month of the year for a few reasons. First of all, it’s the beginning of the holiday season and I love Christmas. Secondly it’s the beginning of Winter and I love the Winter weather and thirdly because it’s my birthday. But this November has totally sucked…

I’m not going to make excuses for my poor performance, but split decision losses, flash knockouts, uncharacteristically bad performances, point deductions, bad fight IQ, bad judging, random headbutts and exploding ears have all contributed to my worst set of betting results in over 3 years. If things had gone slightly differently, we could easily be looking at a profit for this month, but instead, it looks like we’re about to record our biggest losing month of the year.

The good news is that we’ve just about ticked every box for things that could go against us in a fight, this hopefully means that the bad luck is behind us and things are about to go back to normal. The Michael Chandler vs Will Brooks fight at Bellator 131 played out exactly how I thought it would and my win on Will Brooks is hopefully a sign that the madness has now stopped.

I’ll break down my losses for UFC 180 like this…

Jessica Eye was quite literally boxing Leslie Smith’s ears off, until one of her ears exploded. In all my years of watching MMA, I’ve never seen anything like that happen, but a loss is a loss and I’ll take it on the chin.

This loss was a little frustrating, because I personally feel like the fight was heading to a decision. Leslie Smith is tough as nails and it’s not like this is the first time that she’s decided to block punches with her face and hang around for 15 minutes. Eye was putting in a dominant performance, but Smith is hard to finish and I’ve got no doubt that this fight would’ve gone the distance, if it hadn’t been for the exploding ear…

If you haven’t seen the exploding ear, checkout the following video. Make sure you watch the clip in full screen and in HD. Otherwise you might miss the explosion and you wouldn’t want to do that…

Here’s another video showing some more slow motion footage of the explosion…

Quinonez lost to Perez after completely abandoning his aggressive fighting style that had caused me to pick him to win in the first place. Going into the third round I felt that both fighters had won a round each and the winner of the third round would win the fight. As a result, I was delighted when Quinonez secured top position and appeared to be cruising towards a decision victory.

Then, imagine my anger and disappointment, when the complete idiot decided to headbutt someone who he is allegedly friends with. John McCarthy proceeded to stand them up and deduct 2 points from Quinonez for a deliberate foul. This was world class stupidity at it’s finest. In fact, I think Quinonez should win some kind of award for being the dumbest person on the planet. He was probably cruising to a 29-28 decision victory, before he decided to headbutt his friend, lose the fight and cost himself over $100,000. I only wish that McCarthy would have disqualified him, so that I didn’t have to look at his stupid face holding up his hands in victory, when the judges scorecards were read out.

The only thing I hate worse than PED users are people who intentionally foul and Quinonez broke Perez’s nose with that headbutt. That’s not cool…

By the time Dennis Bermudez fought Ricardo Lamas, I was trying to work out how the MMA betting gods could cost me more money. I felt that given the random headbutt and exploding ear, the natural progression was for Bermudez to lose this fight by getting struck by lightning. Whilst a blast of electricity didn’t finish Bermudez off, something equally unlikely did, as Bermudez got dropped with a jab, whilst fresh in the first round, by a guy who doesn’t possess knockout power. After the exploding ear and random headbutt, I can’t say that I was surprised, but it was a little shocking when you take into consideration the fact that Lamas isn’t a power puncher and Bermudez has never been knocked out…

Nevermind, it could have been worse. No wait, it couldn’t have been worse because I lost every bet! Sorry guys!

A nice win on Bellator 131 hopefully means that we’ve put the bad luck behind us and we can now move on and finish the year strong. This all starts with our bets for UFC Fight Night 57 next weekend…
